On Tuesday Brianna (and her young assistant, Megan) visited Mrs. Bostock’s kindergarten class at Riverview Elementary School. Brianna started her visit in the classroom by reading We Are Girls Who Love to Run to the class of nineteen curious students. The children were eager to talk about ways that running helps bodies and enjoyed the “insiders look” at how the illustrations developed and who some of the “characters” are in the book. Brianna even wore her favorite running shirt that is depicted in the book, which really caught their attention! After countless days of rain, everyone was delighted with the blue skies and sunshine that reigned over the running games Brianna played with the class. Using the game she created for KidsRunning.com, Mountain Climb/Valley Sprint, Brianna led the students through some self-pacing running and showed them how they could recreate the game at home with their families and friends. They followed-up the individual-centered game with a team “Island Rescue” relay game Brianna uses with her hooping students.
Though the visit ended with Island Rescue, the students were happy to chat all the way back to the school building, sharing how they like to run (some claimed to be ”even faster than my DAD!”) and proudly showed-off their strength by flexing their biceps. Kindergarten students have a special energy that made for a wonderful end-of-school-year visit experience!
We are currently scheduling author visits for Fall 2010. To learn about Brianna’s interactive programs and to arrange for her to speak with your school or community group, visit our Author Visit page.
